Razor Barbed Wire Fencing Installation Guidance

Aug. 19, 2021

Razor Barbed Wire is a highly secure wire capable of forming large coils which are sharper than standard barbed wire. The multiple blades are designed to cause severe cuts to anyone who tries to climb over it, so it is a strong psychological deterrent. Great for keeping your house safe.

If you are interested in razor barbed wire or want to buy and use it, it is necessary to understand how it should be installed. If you know very little about the installation of razor barbed wire, please do not try it easily because it is very dangerous as you can easily hurt yourself.

In this article, we will provide you with some detailed razor wire fencing installation guidelines based on our experience.

Razor Barbed Wire

Preparation before installation

Measure and calculate how long razor wire is needed.

Measure the distance between the clips and the clamps. This determines the distance between the coils.

Determine the number of coils, each can be 8 to 15 feet apart.

Inspect the razor wire itself to make sure it is not rusty.

Note the following: material, blade type, blade thickness, core diameter, and the number of turns per coil.

Prepare the tools and accessories needed for installation.

Tools needed

Razor wire gloves. Gloves for hand and wrist protection that are cut, puncture and abrasion resistant. The sleeves of the lower and upper arms need further protection.

Warning signs. Be aware of potential hazards. We recommend that warning signs be fixed every 10 meters along the length of the fence run.

Durable ground hooks. Used to securely fasten the coil to the ground.

Small sections of smooth wire, and pliers. For fixing and tightening the wire.

Some wooden sticks of equal length. Used to insert into the ground to support barbed wire.

On existing gates

Place a coil of wire on the top of the fence, or your sliding gate, and secure it to the posts at the top and bottom. Be sure to be careful, if it is not convenient to climb high, you can remove the fence first and put the whole thing up after installing the razor wire.

After that, stretch the wire roll all the way to the other end of the fence post, and again fix the top and bottom to the fence post.

Distribute the razor wire rolls along the fence as evenly as possible, without leaving too much of a gap. Try to keep the fence from moving around to prevent cutting yourself.

On the wall

Start by mounting the brackets on the wall, spacing the brackets apart. Since the wall is high, you can choose a ladder or a scaffold with an assistant around to take care of it.

Install at least two rows of wire on each bracket so that the razor wire can be held more securely in place. You can also use barbed wire. The barbed wire extends and secures to the brackets while the wire coils are secured to the wire or wire mesh with ties.

On the ground

This type of installation is relatively simple and is common in the military because it is very quick and allows for the rapid deployment of an effective defensive barrier.

First, install a set of X-shaped fence posts at regular intervals on the ground. The length and width of the fence posts at intervals can be determined by you. Then extend the razor wire, slowly stretching it and placing it on each X fence post. Finally you can tie the railing and razor wire together by reinforcing them at the contact points with wool or wire, etc.

Protection Alert

There are flexible ways to install wire fencing in different environments, and these are common. Our biggest advice to you is to be very careful when installing, especially when stretching the blades, be sure to hold the coils firmly or they may bounce and accidentally injure you. It is best to have two or more people install them. Solo installation is not recommended. After installation, check that the fastening is complete and does not allow any looseness.
